the child lived either.
On the 1861 census, he is a widower and his occupation is listed as 'Laborer
Agric'. His birthplace is shown as "Bedford".
On the 1871 census, he is a widower, and occupation of 'Ag Lab', and born in
Culcheth.
In the 1881 census, he is a widower, age 64, Farm Laborer, living in "Pennington
in Leigh" with his son, Thomas Dixon (20) who is a "Journ Baker". Address is 10
Jones Square. On the birth certificate of his son, James Jr., his occupation is
listed as 'ostler'.

John shows up in the 1851 census (Pennington in Leigh) a a 4 year
old. He does not appear in the 1861 census as a 14 year old with the family.
It is possible he may be boarding as a servant with another family.
